At Beckfoot Upper Heaton, we value every child and are committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students. We believe that all adults employed by or invited into Beckfoot Upper Heaton have a role in safeguarding our students. This typically includes measures to protect students from harm, abuse, and neglect, as well as protocols for reporting concerns. We have clear policies and protocols to enable students to participate in school activities in an enjoyable and safe environment.
We have designated staff who are responsible for overseeing safeguarding practices and ensuring concerns are addressed appropriately. Our staff undergo training to recognise potential issues and have clear reporting procedures. A key feature of safeguarding is our preventative measures including the PSHCE curriculum and involvement in anti-bullying campaigns and mental health support.
Safeguarding Policy
Our child protection and safeguarding policy ensures these values are recognised and adhered to.
Support for families
This website is fantastic for any family living in Bradford. Here you can find information and advice on a wide range of topics, find out what’s on in the Bradford District.
There is support for money, safety, education, special educational needs and more.

Operation Encompass
Our school is part of Operation Encompass, which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse.
As a school, we have ensured that a member of our staff, (Designated Safeguarding Lead) known as a Key Adult, has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedure, allowing us to then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the children in our care.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021, identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right. If school receives a notification from Operation Encompass, a safeguarding lead may contact you to check in and offer any further support.

The Prevent Duty
Schools are duty bound to safeguard students from radicalisation and being drawn into extremism. If school suspects this is happening, they will make a referral to the local Prevent Team to gain support for the student.
What to do if you think a child is being radicalised
If you think a child or the people around them are involved in radicalisation and there is an immediate risk of harm, call 999 straight away. If the risk isn’t immediate, please speak to your schools safeguarding lead.
