Our curriculum is designed to engage the diverse needs and interests of every learner, encouraging them to become empowered and to broaden their understanding of the world. At Beckfoot Upper Heaton, personal, social and health education (PSHCE), Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Careers education enables our pupils to become healthy, independent and responsible members of a society. It aims to help them understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social and cultural (SMSC) issues that are part of becoming young adults.
Aims of our PSHE and RSE strategy
- To broaden pupils’ horizons through a range of personal, social, health, economic, relationships and sex education, and cultural opportunities.
- To ensure that all pupils are able to thrive and develop as healthy individuals; where no child is left behind.
- To ensure all pupils understand how to stay safe.
- To develop a strength of character and resilience that will help pupils to overcome the challenges they may encounter in adult life.
- To provide an appropriate range of opportunities and experiences to allow pupils to succeed in the next stage in their education, training or employment.
PSHCE
PSHCE is a core component of the Preventative Curriculum at Beckfoot Upper Heaton, empowering students to understand the personal, emotional, and physical risks they may encounter. It equips them with skills to protect themselves and recognize when they or others may need support, promoting fulfilled and healthy lives now and in the future. Our school embraces the diversity of our students’ experiences, recognizing how these perspectives shape their understanding of the world while upholding a commitment to British Values. This commitment ensure students are prepared for future success. The assemble program further enriches this learning experience.
PSHCE is a timetabled lesson for all students in school which is planned and resourced by the Assistant Headteacher for Personal Development.
